The Lab is shifting gears. Following the success of The Climb, we're introducing our most prestigious event yet: the FAIRWAYLAB Open Cup.

This is a two-stage pursuit of excellence that pits our dedicated members against the best public challengers in the region. It's a test of consistency, a battle of nerves, and a search for the clinical precision required to lift the Cup. With over $7,500 in total prize value on the line, this is the biggest event in FAIRWAYLAB history.

Only 32 will make the cut. Only one will take the trip.

The Open Cup journey

The tournament splits into two high-stakes phases: the April qualifier and the May playoff series.

Phase 1: the April qualifier (April 2–30)

The road begins at Cabot Cliffs. Throughout April, the Lab is dedicated to finding the top tier of talent.

Two brackets — members and public players compete on separate leaderboards
The format — 18-hole net stroke play
Unlimited attempts — the Lab rewards the grind. Play as many rounds as you need; only your best score counts toward your final qualifying rank
The cut — the top 16 members and top 16 public players (32 total) advance to the May playoffs

Both the #1 member and the #1 public qualifier on April 30th win a free year of membership.

The May playoff schedule

Once the field is set, the tournament moves into a high-intensity, single-elimination bracket.

Round of 32 (May 1–10) — net stroke play
Sweet 16 (May 11–17) — net stroke play
Elite 8 (May 18–24) — net match play, head-to-head
Final Four (May 25–29) — net match play, head-to-head
The Grand Finale (May 30/31) — championship match

How the Open Cup works

The Open Cup is designed to be competitive, flexible, and fair. By using verified TrackMan handicaps, we ensure a level playing field where every golfer — from the scratch player to the high-handicapper — has a legitimate path to the trophy.

The early weeks of April are about establishing your position at the top of the board. Many players return multiple times during the month to refine their Lab Results and improve their standing. This is the chance to secure a free year of golf and a #1 seed, or for the public to break into the Lab and pull off the ultimate upset.

How to enter the Lab

Entry is streamlined through the TrackMan system. To ensure a fair fight for the top seeds, qualifying is split into two distinct brackets. When you arrive at the simulator:

Log in to your TrackMan account
Navigate to Competitions and select Local
Members — select "The FAIRWAYLAB. Open Cup - MEMBER ENTRY"
Public players — select "The FAIRWAYLAB. Open Cup - PUBLIC ENTRY"

Choosing the correct entry ensures your score is recorded on the right leaderboard for the April prizes and the May seeding.
